Nobody’s perfect. And yet, everyone is imperfectly perfect.
On the one hand, acknowledging our imperfections is a good thing, because it means you have the room to forgive and accept yourself.
After all, even your role models, the people you look at and think “wow, I wish I had that life” aren’t perfect, but we find ourselves comparing our life to theirs and feeling bad about ourselves. Do you find you hold yourself to such high, unrealistic standards?
But it also means there’s always room for improvement, growth, personal exploration, and self actualization.
In my work as a life coach, I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way.
And perhaps one of the simplest, most straightforward and poignant ones I’ve learned can be wrapped up in this simple quote by the great William S. Burroughs:
“When you stop growing you start dying”
It hits hard, doesn’t it?
Do you feel stuck?
Stagnant?
Like there’s just nowhere for you to go?
If so, you’re not alone.
Believe it or not, that feeling is more common than you think, but the good news is that it’s never too late to get through that.
Let’s take a closer look.
Planting Seeds
When we plan for the future, confidence and mindset coaches often use the metaphor of planting seeds.
And it’s easy to see why.
After all, the very act of planting seeds is an investment in your future.
You get nothing today from planting a seed in the ground other than some dirt under your fingernails.
But that work is the first step in manifesting greater wealth and abundance coaching.
Down the road it turns into something beautiful if you take care it , water it and expect it to grow.
You’re changing the present, and through that, you’re changing your future. ?
Here are four simple ways to change your present, and thereby, change your future.
1. Take Back Your Health
The first step toward manifesting a healthy lifestyle is to take stock of your habits that are detrimental to your health.
Do you find yourself sacrificing sleep for an extra hour or two scrolling away on your favourite social media site?
Are you opting for quick and easy food that you know is terrible for you?
Simple acts of self care like getting enough sleep and drinking more water can make an enormous difference on your health, both mentally and physically.
2. Look At Your Habits
When we work toward manifesting the life of our dreams, we often find there are barriers in the way.
Sometimes those barriers are material things – not making enough money, being a single parent having to take care of your kids by yourself – but not always.
Often, it’s our habits that need to be addressed, not our material reality.
Let’s say you want to manifest the perfect relationship.
A dating and relationship coach might ask you what habits you have around dating that have held you back from finding the person of your dreams.
What habits do you have around relationships that are holding you back?
Do you find yourself constantly catastrophizing in your relationships?
Do you find yourself constantly fighting with your partner?
Do you feel the need to control everything in your life?
By addressing these and other habits you have around relationships, you can get out of your own way and work toward the relationship of your dreams.
3. Commit Yourself To Helping Others
If you’re fortunate enough to still have your parents around, they’re not getting any younger.
Be there for them, like they were there for you.
It’s important, of course, to understand that uncritical selflessness isn’t sustainable – you need to set boundaries with your parents.
But giving and kindness are their own rewards, and that goes double for when you take care of your family.
Maybe your parents don’t need a lot of attention right now though – that’s okay.
Someone does.
Find a way to give back to your community – through volunteer work, through giving back, through providing care for the people around you.
When you share your abundance with the people in your community – even if they don’t know it – you’re creating a better environment for them and for you.
4. Set Your Goals – But Be Realistic
It’s easy to set goals.
It’s the easiest thing in the world, in fact.
But here’s the thing – goals are useless unless they’re backed by commitment and deliberate, inspired action to manifest them.
It’s so important to set goals that are actually believable.
For example, let’s say you struggle with how to forgive people.
It’s good to want to work on that.
But you may to be able to fix lifelong habits overnight – it doesn’t work that way. You may have many layers of limiting beliefs and blindspots that a good coach can help you with.
Acknowledging that it will take time and commitment to improve isn’t a negative approach – it’s a realistic one, and it has the best chance of success.
