Faith.
You’ve heard the word thousands of times with thousands of different meanings.
But what is it, at its core?
Does everybody have it?
And how can it help you manifest the life of your dreams?
In my practice as a Toronto life coach, I’ve seen this word used in so many different scenarios, it can make your head spin.
At the same time, it’s an important ingredient when it comes to manifesting the life of your dreams.
Let’s take a look at what faith is, what faith is not, and how it can serve you in your journey.
What Is Faith?
When we think of faith, we often think of it in a religious context.
Faith in God, faith in Jesus, faith in Buddha, the list goes on.
And faith certainly plays an important role in religion, but you don’t necessarily need to be religious to have faith.
In my practice, I work with people of all different spiritual backgrounds.
Some consider themselves to be a particular religion, others call themselves spiritual but not religious, and still others have no spiritual beliefs at all.
Yes, even atheists can have faith!
How?
Merriam Webster’s Dictionary has a few different definitions for faith, but the one that fits our purposes most is “firm belief in something for which there is no proof”.
There’s no definitive proof any sort of god exists, but it’s something many people feel deeply enough that they still believe.
That’s faith.
Essentially, faith begins where evidence ends.
But I’d like to take it a step further – when it looks like things aren’t going to happen, that’s where faith starts.
When you’re working to heal from old relationship wounds, but you keep meeting people who aren’t a fit for you.
When you’re working to manifest a stronger, more confident mindset, but your emotional baggage keeps popping up.
When you’re working to manifest a life of wealth and abundance but you keep getting hit with setbacks, financial or otherwise.
It’s at these moments where faith begins.
It’s easy to hold onto faith when things are going well, but it’s when the going gets tough that faith is really important.
And a lot of that has to do with how we bargain with ourselves in our own brains.
You can always find reasons that feel logical to you for why things aren’t going to work out for you.
But here’s the thing – that’s faith too.
It’s faith that things aren’t going to work out.
Whatever you’re facing may seem stressful, but you really have no evidence that you’re going to face a negative outcome, and you’ve decided to believe it anyway – and that’s what you may end up manifesting.
So why not have faith that things will work out and manifest a more positive outcome instead?
If you’re like many of the people who stumble upon this blog, it might be because you feel like the life of your dreams is far away.
You might feel stuck, frustrated, unable to move forward.
That’s understandable – I’ve been there too.
But if you want to manifest the life of your dreams, you have to start with believing you can manifest the life of your dreams.
Here are some suggestions to start with.
1. Use Positive Affirmations
Affirmations are positive statements you can use to challenge negative beliefs and start manifesting more consciously.
This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about affirmations on this blog, and for good reason.
If you feel like you’re struggling to manifest the relationship of your dreams, your life coach may suggest affirmations similar to the following:
- I deserve a fulfilling relationship
- I am open to attracting a loving, supportive partner
- I choose to be happy
At first, these affirmations might feel like wishful thinking at best, but that’s where faith comes in.
Because look, you’re manifesting either way.
If you’re constantly thinking things like “I’m going to be alone forever” or “I’m not worthy of love”, those too are affirmations – they’re just negative ones.
And you don’t have any proof your negative affirmations are true any more than the positive ones – either way you’re acting on faith.
So you may as well go for the positive ones, since they hold promise of manifesting what you desire.
Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right – Henry Ford
2. Be Mindful Of The People You Surround Yourself With
The people you spend the most time with will end up having a major influence on you.
We’re social creatures, so our beliefs end up rubbing off on each other, often without us even knowing it.
So if you’re surrounded with negative, pessimistic people with a scarcity mindset, you’re likely to become negative and pessimistic yourself.
When you tell them what the life of your dreams looks like, they’ll respond with negativity, pointing out all the reasons why it’s not realistic, why it’s foolish, why you shouldn’t want that.
On the other hand, if the people closest with you are optimistic, live in an abundance mindset, and have faith in you, they too will influence you.
Energy is contagious, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that.
That, however, doesn’t stop energy from working.
It’s not to say we should toss anybody aside when they have any negative influence on us.
We all face adversity at different times, and acknowledging our true feelings is important, otherwise it can potentially lead to toxic positivity.
But if the people in your life are bringing mostly negativity to the table, it may be time to reconsider their place in your life and how much you’re influenced by them.
3. Consider The Moments When Faith Has Helped You In The Past
Remember how far you’ve come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be – Rick Warren
In our quest to manifest our dream lives, we often spend so much time focusing on where we’re headed that it’s easy to lose sight of how far you’ve come.
When I’m practicing healthy lifestyle manifestation coaching, I sometimes have clients focused on achieving a healthier weight.
And while it’s easy to stay focused on the number staring at you from your bathroom scale, it’s also important to take a look backward at where you were when you started your manifestation journey.
You’ve overcome your fear, established healthier habits, and built a healthier relationship with yourself.
Likewise, while serving as a confident mindset manifestation coach, I often work with clients who have big dreams and aspirations, but whose mindset is standing in the way.
Developing a confident mindset is a process – it’s not a pill you can take.
It’s important to pause along the way to acknowledge your progress.
But as you clean up your emotional baggage, practice mindfulness, and learn to embrace life’s inherent uncertainties, you’re moving toward manifesting an even more confident mindset .
Think of times where you’ve managed to hold onto your faith that things would get better through the rough times in your past.
Maybe it was a breakup with your best friend, the end of a romantic relationship, or coming face to face with the reality of the generational trauma you’ve inherited.
It could be a thousand other things as well – the point is, you’ve made it through difficult times before.
The storm clouds were present, the dark days were there, but eventually they cleared up and blue skies returned.
Take the time to consider the progress you’ve made, and the times where faith helped you through adversity in the past.
This will help you keep faith that better things are coming.
The best is yet to come.
